At Assess Hawaii, our mission is to provide clinical training for doctoral interns, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate level practicum students.

Doctoral Internship

Please note: We are currently in the APPIC application process in an attempt to bring an accredited internship training site to our beloved Hawai’i

  • Located in Honolulu, Hawaii, our mission is to provide an internship program at our private outpatient clinic. Interns will provide comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological assessment services, as well as therapy services, across the lifespan.

    Assess Hawai‘i offers a dynamic, growth-oriented doctoral internship program with a focus on evaluation, therapy, diagnosis, and client-centered feedback. Doctoral interns gain experience with diverse populations and presenting concerns in a supportive and professional environment.

    We also provide school psychological assessments and emotional behavioral assessments for the Hawai‘i Department of Education, as well as early intervention services including both evaluations and treatment for young children.

  • Assess Hawai‘i is currently in the application process for membership with the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC). Our goal is to become an APPIC-member site to serve the training needs of doctoral interns in Hawai‘i and to eventually seek APA accreditation. We are committed to providing high-quality training aligned with APPIC and APA standards.

  • Our training is grounded in the development of competency in psychological andneuropsychological assessment, therapy, ethical practice, cultural sensitivity, and professional development. Interns will:

     Develop proficiency in test administration, scoring, interpretation, and report writing.

     Provide evidence-based therapy and feedback to clients and families.

     Engage in regular supervision and didactic learning experiences.

     Enhance skills in consultation, professionalism, and cultural humility.

  • Research: Apply scientific literature to clinical practice.

    Ethical and Legal Standards: Demonstrate knowledge and application of ethical, legal, and professional guidelines.

    Individual and Cultural Diversity: Provide culturally responsive services.

    Assessment: Conduct and interpret comprehensive psychological evaluations.

    Intervention: Deliver evidence-based therapy and monitor client progress.

    Professional Values and Attitudes: Exhibit integrity, accountability, and self-reflection.

    Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Communicate effectively with clients, families, and teams.

    Supervision: Utilize and respond to clinical supervision effectively.

    Consultation and Interprofessional Skills: Collaborate with other professionals and provide consultation.

  • Interns provide approximately 20 hours per week of direct client contact through therapy, psychological and neuropsychological evaluations, interviewing, and feedback. Additional training activities include:

    Weekly didactic seminars and extended training sessions Individual and group supervision and Multidisciplinary consultation

  • Interns receive a minimum of 2 hours of individual supervision per week and participate in group supervision and case consultation weekly. Supervision is provided by licensed psychologists.

  • Duration: 12 months, full-time (40 hours/week)

    Total Training Hours: 2,000 hours

    Start Date: First business day of August, 2026.

    Stipend: $34,000

    Benefits: Paid Leaves, Holidays, 401k Plan.

    Selection Criteria: Applicants must be enrolled in an APA- or CPA-accredited doctoral program in clinical or counseling psychology and have prior experience in psychological assessment and therapy services.

  • Interns are formally evaluated twice yearly based on the development of core competency domains. A comprehensive grievance policy is in place to address any concerns related to supervision, evaluations, or other training areas, ensuring a supportive and transparent training environment.

Assess Hawai‘i offers a comprehensive and well-structured doctoral internship training program designed to provide advanced, hands-on experience in both therapy, and psychological and neuropsychological assessment. This extensive program places a strong emphasis on the development of clinical competence in evaluating and treating a wide range of diverse populations across the entire lifespan, including toddlers, children, adolescents, adults, and aging adults. Interns benefit from extensive training in the administration and interpretation of assessments pertinent to various conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, dementia, intellectual disability, learning disorders, ADHD, emotional disorders, and behavioral problems; in addition to developing strong intervention skills and techniques that include cognitive and other behavioral therapies.

The internship program thoughtfully integrates supervised clinical practice with structured didactic learning opportunities, with a key focus on intervention, The internship training program at Assess Hawai‘i offers comprehensive hands-on experience in both therapy and evaluation services tailored to diverse populations, including toddlers, children, adolescents, adults, and aging adults. Interns engage in neuropsychological, psychological, and academic assessments to assist in diagnosing conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, learning disorders, dementia, intellectual disabilities, and emotional or behavioral challenges. In addition to evaluation techniques, the program emphasizes therapeutic approaches, allowing interns to develop skills in delivering evidence-based interventions and support. This dual focus ensures that trainees gain a well-rounded understanding of clinical practices and service delivery in a culturally relevant Hawaiian context.achieving diagnostic clarity and formulating individualized, evidence-based treatment recommendations. Interns work closely alongside a multidisciplinary team of professionals, gaining valuable exposure to areas such as academic accommodations, emotional support animal evaluations, and detailed neurodevelopmental testing. Ultimately, this program aims to thoroughly prepare interns for independent clinical practice by fostering essential skills such as critical thinking, adherence to high ethical standards, and the provision of culturally informed and sensitive care tailored to the unique social and cultural context of Hawai‘i.

POSTDOCTORAL TRAINING

Postdoctoral training in clinical psychology at Assess Hawai'i represents a significant and advanced stage of professional development beyond the internship level, offering specialized and intensive experience in therapy, psychological assessment, and neuropsychological evaluation. This comprehensive training program emphasizes the integration of complex diagnostic skills, evidence-based intervention strategies, and effective multidisciplinary collaboration across a wide range of diverse populations, including toddlers, children, adolescents, adults, and aging adults. Trainees actively engage in providing comprehensive therapy services alongside detailed evaluations for conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, dementia, intellectual disabilities, ADHD, emotional disorders, and behavioral problems. Throughout this process, they refine their expertise in academic accommodations, comprehensive treatment planning, and psychoeducation. The postdoctoral experience at Assess Hawai'i is designed to nurture a high degree of clinical autonomy, ethical practice, and the research-informed application of psychological principles, ultimately preparing clinicians to function confidently as independent practitioners who can effectively address the nuanced psychological and neurodevelopmental needs within the unique context of the Hawaiian community.

Diagnostic and Intervention Practicum Training

At Assess Hawai‘i, diagnostic and intervention practicum student training is designed to provide hands-on experience in administering and interpreting comprehensive psychological, neuropsychological, and academic evaluations. Students work closely with licensed professionals to assess conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, learning disorders, and emotional disturbances across diverse age groups, from toddlers to aging adults. The practicum emphasizes the integration of evidence-based assessment techniques with culturally sensitive practices tailored to the Hawaii community. Additionally, students gain exposure to developing individualized intervention plans, including recommendations for academic accommodations and emotional support animal letters, ensuring a well-rounded, practical learning environment that prepares them for professional practice.

At Assess Hawai'i, the intervention practicum training is designed to provide hands-on experience in therapy and a variety of evidence-based interventions tailored to diverse psychological and neurodevelopmental needs. Trainees engage in practical sessions that emphasize individualized treatment planning, therapeutic techniques, and the application of interventions for conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, emotional disorders, and learning disabilities. This practicum fosters the development of clinical skills in a supportive environment, ensuring that practitioners are well-equipped to deliver effective, client-centered care across the lifespan.
